Bellest Battles

drjekyllandmrhightide asked: Can I just say- I LOVE the design for this region map.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to put as much effort into the region as possible, since many Fakemon creators tend not to do much else except the ‘mons themselves. My goal is for this project to feel like it could actually be a full-fledged region.

#112. Akyu

image

#112. Akyu is a Dark/Fairy-type Pokémon from the Bellest region. It is the Left Pokémon species. It is 0.2 m (8 in.) tall and weighs 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs).

Akyu’s Ability is Sinistra, a new Ability that activates when Akyu is sent out in a Double or Triple Battle. When it activates, Akyu and all Pokémon to its right have their Attack and Special Attack increased by one stage each; thus, it is most beneficial to send Akyu out on the left.

Akyu’s Hidden Ability is Minus.

Akyu is genderless, but is part of the Fairy Egg Group.

Akyu’s base stats are as follows:

70 HP
75 Attack
60 Defense
100 Sp. Attack
75 Sp. Defense
90 Speed
470 BST

Akyu’s EV yield is 2 Sp. Attack. Its catch rate is 75. Its base friendship is 35. Its experience group is Fast (800,000 EXP at level 100).

Akyu is not known to hold any items in the wild.

Pokédex entries:

  • Akyu and Kikyu are sworn rivals. No Trainer can keep them from squabbling over their owner’s direction.
  • Akyu’s shrill squeaks are apparently its way of tempting its Trainer to make trouble. It likes mischievous owners.

Name origin: aku, Japanese for evil + kyu, Japanese onomatopoeia for squeaking

Design origin: Fairy-type shoulder devil

#111. Kikyu

#111. Kikyu is a Psychic/Fairy-type Pokémon from the Bellest region. It is the Right Pokémon species. It is 0.2 m (8 in.) tall and weighs 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs).

Kikyu’s Ability is Dextra, a new Ability that activates when Kikyu is sent out in a Double or Triple Battle. When it activates, Kikyu and all Pokémon to its left have their Defense and Special Defense increased by one stage each; thus, it is most beneficial to send Kikyu out on the right.

Kikyu’s Hidden Ability is Plus.

Kikyu is genderless, but is part of the Fairy Egg Group.

90 HP
60 Attack
75 Defense
75 Sp. Attack
100 Sp. Defense

470 BST

Kikyu is not known to hold any items in the wild.

Pokédex entries:

  • The burbling from Kikyu’s mouth is said to be advice from the gods. It seeks out righteous Trainers.
  • Kikyu has a fierce rivalry with Akyu. If the two are owned by the same Trainer, they will argue over what the Trainer should do.

Name origin: kiyoi, Japanese for noble or pure + kyu, Japanese onomatopoeia for squeaking

Design origin: Fairy-type shoulder angel

(Kikyu’s type was chosen based on the rumored Fairy matchups from Pokebeach. If Fairy turns out to have different matchups, Kikyu’s primary Psychic type may change to something else.)

The Bellest (BELL-est) region lies at the crossroads of three rivers. The westernmost, the Allevium (uh-LAY-vee-um), runs to the southwest after splitting from the middle river, the Belluge (BELL-ooj), which runs southeast to the Bellest Ocean. Further east, the Estupex (ESS-tyoo-peks) River divides the final part of the region.
Trainers begin their journey at Laurelbrook Town in the northwest corner of the region. Each of the two large landmasses in the center is home to three Pokemon Gyms, while the easternmost peninsula holds the final two Gyms as well as the Pokemon League.
The Bellest region is home to mines, swamps, boardwalks, mountains, beaches, ancient ruins, and plenty of familiar and unfamiliar Pokemon for Trainers to call their own.

A large-scale map of the Bellest region.

A large-scale map of the Bellest region.

So about three years ago, I made up a Pokemon region, plunked down a couple dozen hours into sketching it, naming things, and coming up with a few native Fakemon for it. Set it aside for three years. And then today, in a sudden burst of inspiration, I spent the last three hours starting to digitize the region.
(And along with it, I updated the few weeabooesque faux-Japanese place names to proper English-sounding ones. Say goodbye to Garika Heights, Sekainia City, Sumikai Town and the Kushika Power Plant and say hello instead to Allevium Heights, Bellest City, Feathervane Town and the Belluge Power Plant. The Sekai region is now the Bellest region.)
This sideblog may or may not ever be updated again, depending on whether I have the work ethic to put effort into this region again.
